Jobs with American and
Overseas Contractors in the Gulf States, Yemen and other
overseas Countries in the Region
Much of
the Middle East is in turmoil and most likely will remain
like that for some time to come. The biggest problems is
not, as some people think, the potential conflict between
Islam and the modern world. Far more important is the
massive unemployment that exists in almost every Middle
Eastern country. Moreover, the population in most
countries is young and, in some of the countries,
relatively well educated with little hope of ever getting
a job. The expectations these young people have, about
life in general and about jobs, are not fulfilled by
their respective governments. That is one of the reasons
why many of the 20 to 45 year olds have turned to
religion and to religious parties as a sort of
"savior" of their future.
| But, what
does all of this upheaval mean for people who are
looking for a job in these countries? Most
economic workforces in the Middle East, with the
exception of Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon are
dominated by foreigners. In Saudi Arabia and the
Gulf States temporary workers from India, Sri
Lanka, Bangladesh, the Philippines and Pakistan
dominate. At the same time there are thousand of
Europeans, Indians and Americans holding
management positions as well as higher level
technical jobs. There is a continued
significant need for qualified professionals in
all of these countries. |
|
The war has added Iraq to
countries with large numbers of foreign workers. EVEN
THOUGH, THE MILITARY INVOLVEMENT OF THE USA HAS ENDED AT
THE END OF 2011. There are still some troops there for
training and intelligence work. In addition, the DEMAND
FOR FOREIGN WORKERS continues and international
contractors are deeply involved in the rebuilding
and the cleaning up process in Iraq. They
require seasoned and well educated tradesmen and
professionals in almost all disciplines and
areas.
At the end of this year, almost all
soldiers, apart from some training units, will have left
Iraq.
The
available jobs are now mainly in cleaning up, shipping
and packing the remaining equipment. However, the Iraqi
government largely depends on foreign workers for their
technical expertise in areas like the oil industry. There
are some key logistics skills that are mainly provided by
American contractors. Rebuilding and technically cleaning
up (e.g. UXO and other war debris) after the conflict,
are also jobs, where the foreign contractors will
continue to be active.
There is
still a need, although reduced, for the following types
of positions
| Intelligence
and Security Positions |
Vehicle
Maintenance and Mechanics |
Specialized
Telecommunications and Computer Personnel |
| Technical
Personnel such as mechanical and
electrical and civil Engineers |
Oil
field Staff at all levels (exploration,
maintenance and production) |
Police
and Security Training - Specialized Military
Training |
Contract
Administrators and Contract Accountants |
We estimate that, at any time,
there are some 30-100 open positions available.
That is down from about 400 in 2010.
At the
same time, as there are job reductions in Iraq, there is
also a stabilization of jobs offered in Afghanistan
and the surrounding countries. There are some
additional job opportunities in other Gulf States, such
as Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar as well as in Yemen on the
Red Sea and Indian Ocean.
Most
Army units, especially on the support side and
repair, have been withdrawn. As are, since the end 2011,
all combat units.
There
are ongoing opportunities in support jobs with large
numbers of US companies involved in a range of
security, logistics, support and non military operations.

To research who hires, where and
for what jobs will take you weeks, if not months. This would cost
you several hundred Dollars in time and effort. Keeping
your database up to date in the changing environment of
the government contractors will cost you further time and
effort. We have already done that for you.
| Major
Contractors keep large numbers of potential
candidates on their personnel roster.
The main reason is that their personnel needs can
change quite quickly and when that occurs, they
cannot go through the time consuming process of
finding, selecting, approving and recruiting new
employees. |

Since many jobs require security
clearances, this will take time. If you are not
immediately contacted after your application, do not
worry. Employers will call you, when they need you!
We
will send your application by e-mail to companies, who
hire contractors for Iraq and who are
in search of your skills. We
will send it to the right companies, not on some wild
goose chase! The number of interested
companies will depend on the skills you offer.
These companies will then directly contact you
directly, when they have an opening and
need your skills, agreeing directly with you
their employment conditions.
